Why Infants Cry?

Nobody can prepare you for parenting, be it your first child or second. Some things might come easy to you and some things you just cannot handle. All you can do is learn and grow. The only one that can teach you how to take care of your child is your child and the only tool your baby has, to tell you something is by crying.
This is what I have learned from my experience as a mother. I am no doctor and have no PhD in kids, all I know is from my experience. I had this mental list (compilation help was from my mother-in-law) and I used to tick them off one by one, it made my life bit easier. 🙂
The  kid in initial 6 months basically cries for 8 reasons:
1. Hungry!! Feed!! Feed!! Feed!!
They are constantly hungry because they take feed in small amount. They cannot have too much at one time, mainly because they get tired of sucking. Sometimes the mother’s milk is not sufficient, don’t panic, eat something stop worrying-take some rest and when next time your baby is hungry you will have enough milk.
2. Wanna Pee!!
Whenever my daughter was about to pee, she used to cry. Not a small uncomfortable cry, but like the whole world is about to burn, kind of cry. In the beginning it used to scare me, that she might be itchy or have problem peeing but after multiple trips to doctor and observations of my own, I realized she is just not used to the feeling of peeing. Motherhood!!
3. Pooping!!
This was another reason she cried, because she did not want to go through the work that requires pooping. Once she was done with that, she did not like being unclean and unhygienic for the small amount of time it took me to clean her. Which brought down another big huge cry from her side.
4. Abdominal Pain or Gas problem!!
This was one of the other big reasons to cry. We as adults sometimes have acidity and gas issues and so does the kids. When we as adults sometimes get severe pain due to it, what would you expect from a newborn. For this, I used a homemade remedy told to me by my mother-in-law. Simply mix a small amount of Hing powder (asafoetida powder) in lukewarm water and apply it on his/her stomach and abdominal region. This used to calm her down.
5. Sleepy!!
How will your kid tell you that he/she is sleepy? By crying of course!! Solution: put them to sleep. Easy?? You Wish!!
6. Feeling Hot or Cold!!
Sometimes kids cry because they are feeling hot/ cold. I learned this the hard way (my husband might say, I still haven’t learned), that your kid has his/her own body temperatures. Simply put, if you are feeling cold, it is not necessary that your kid is too!!
7. Scared!!
They are kids after all. They get scared by simple noises like that of pressure cooker and thunder. Hold your baby and sing to them softly, even if you are a bathroom singer like me, nothing calms a baby more than the voice of his/her mother.
8. Teething!!
It came a bit later, when she was 4 months old. But again my mother-in-law came to my rescue. She gave me an Ayurvedic medicine- BC21, I have heard a few mother say it did not help their kid so make sure you consult a doctor before trying. It helped me and made teething a smooth ride for my daughter and me!!
These are the basic reasons which made my daughter cry, of course, it is not necessarily applicable to each and every child. Yet no harm in trying!! 🙂
Happy Motherhood!! 🙂

My Doll’s House: Part 4: Decorations

Finally we started the decorations!! I took help from my mother-in-law, as she is in town and she is really great in all DIY things, her inputs were really helpful.

I bought some wrapping sheets and stickers from the stationary nearby.
All set with our tools, we first started with the roof.

We took some bright red colour sheets and started sticking them on the roof Lightly with some common glue.

Lightly, because my Dear Devil started her assaults early. She banged the roof a few times yesterday, to tell us that she liked the house. Luckily, we took Amrit’s advice in my 2nd post and doubled walled it. So, the damage was not much.

After the bright red roof, we started on the walls. Initially, we thought of sticking different colour papers on the wall, but that did not look so great. So, we decided with a single green colour sheets with ‘heart’s design’ for all four walls.

Then we decided to put plain white sheets on the inside walls. So, she can add her own creativity to the play house.

Also, it gave a little light and open feel to the play house.

And she did start, with all her colours, before we can even finish it!!

The roof and floor on the inside are still to be done. Stickers and little hangings are still pending. But she did love it. So maybe we did not do that bad a job.

What are your thoughts??

My Doll’s House:Part 3 Preparing From Future Assaults

After hearing all of your suggestions and comments….I decided to first make the house a bit sturdy. So, I added a few more cardboards to the wall (Thanks Amrit for the suggestion).

My daughter has already started to assualt it. She tried flatening the ceiling, don’t know why. Maybe adding a double layered wall, might just save it, till I decorate it. 🙂

I also added some cardboards to the base, to give it a cushiony feeling as suggested by Rajat, in my last post.

Now for decorations, I have decided to leave it on the stationary owner nearby. He keeps a decent collection of decorative items. I will check out his wrapping paper collection and few crazy stickers.

As for inside decoration, I am yet to decide on it. I am stuck on two options:

1. To make it black with glowing stickers (as suggested by Swati)

2. To go with white drawing paper for her to show her own creativity.

What do u suggest? Any 3rd Option?

Doll House turns into Play House:Part 2

Well, I tend to go big!!

So I started with a Doll house and turned it into a Play house for my Doll to play in.

I took 2 medium size cardboards to make the walls on three sides. After that I took a bigger cardboard for the roof, attached it to the walls to make sure it holds through all the upcoming assaults by her.

I did not put a door for easy access to her, but on second thought installed a half door for play purpose.

While we were busy making her a play house, she decided to trash the bigger one.

But as soon as she was told that the house is ready for her to play in…she took all her soft toys with her.

It has a natural window as well.

Seems a basic structure is ready. Now it needs a little decoration.

What do you think? Any modifications? Suggestions? Adding another floor seems a bit much (as per my husband)

Decoration ideas invited…!!

Doll House, Part 1

Hi everyone,

Hope you all are fine.

Today, I decided to give my 1.5 yr old a Doll house. Initially I thought of buying it from Amazon or something, but did not really like the options. The ones I did like were too expensive and did not feel like spending that much on a play thing.

So, I decided to make one with her help and a little help from Mr. Amazon. Don’t worry Amazon has not yet started this kind of customer help!!!

I had huge boxes of Amazon shipping available (addicted to buying stuff online) . The huge boxes were just pilling on and on, so I decided to break a few big ones for the Doll house..

Right now, work in progress!! Will update soon!!

Any help and ideas much appreciated.

My Defination of Parenting!!!

I think parenting is the hardest job in the world. Most of the time you have no clue about what you are doing. For the rest of the time, when you think you know what you are doing…somebody somewhere says you are wrong!!
Your kids drive you to the point of madness, (just short of complete madness) and when you are just about to lose it… your kid does something unexpected….which makes that exact moment one of the best moments of your life!!
Before you can enjoy your moment…your kid again does something to bring you again on the verge of madness…that is parenting!!
What do you think?
